🗒 Ingredient notes (+ substitutions)

- Strawberries: choose fresh and sweet strawberries that aren't bruised and that have a bright red color. The sweeter they are, the better your milk will be! I think this oat milk is best when prepared in the summer when berries are super fresh and at their best, but to be honest, I made it using berries that were available mid-winter and the result was very yummy!
- Rolled oats: I used thick old-fashioned oats. I haven't tried it using quick oats, but I think it should work (you might have to add a little more). Old-fashioned oats are less processed and provide more nutrients, so try using this kind for a nutrient-packed glass of milk! And make sure to use certified gluten-free oats if necessary.
- Maple syrup: I love the flavor maple syrup gives the milk, and it dissolves easily if you have to add more after the blending process is finished, but any sweetener will work.
- Vanilla extract: optional, but it adds an amazing flavor that pairs perfectly with the strawberries, so I highly recommend adding some.

📝 Variations
- Flavoring ingredients: I love vanilla in this recipe, but you can add another flavoring ingredient such as cinnamon, almond extract or coconut extract.
- Naturally sweetened: if your berries are super sweet, then you can skip the added maple syrup altogether. Or swap the liquid sweetener for a few large and soft pitted Medjool dates.
- Mixed berries: feel free to include other berries, such as blueberries, blackberries or raspberries.
🍽 How to make your own strawberry oat milk

Step 1: Add the water, rolled oats, strawberries, vanilla and sweetener to a blender.

Step 2: Blend for 30 seconds.

Step 3: Place a fine mesh colander over a large bowl and pour the blended milk through it. Do not force the milk to strain with a spoon, you want to allow the solids to accumulate in the colander so you can discard it at the end (this helps avoid a slimy result).

Step 4: Transfer the milk into a glass jar and chill in the fridge before enjoying.

💡 Helpful tips
- When making oat milk (as opposed to almond or cashew milk), I recommend straining the milk using a fine-mesh colander as opposed to a nut milk bag (check out this cashew chocolate milk for a visual on what is a nut milk bag). Trust me, I tried using a bag, but it does not work well for oat milk! Rolled oats create a thick and slimy solid deposit that blocks the nut milk bag, the strained milk just cannot go through. Use a colander and do not push the solid through it.
- Do not blend for too long, about 30 seconds is best. If you blend for longer than that, then you risk having milk that's slimy.
- Adjust the sweetness to your taste, which will depend on how sweet the strawberries are naturally.

🥛 Serving suggestions
We love this milk by the glass and served extra cold. If serving right away, then add a few ice cubes for a chill effect and some sliced strawberries for a fancy look. But if time allows it, transfer the milk to the fridge for 1-2 hours before serving.
- Strawberry swirl: check out this strawberry matcha oat latte recipe to see how you can make a strawberry syrup to drizzle in your glass at serving.
- Cereals: our kids's-favorite, pour this strawberry oat milk over your favorite cereal or granola! It would pair amazingly with this vanilla almond granola or this matcha granola.
- Oatmeal: use this milk when cooking oatmeal for added flavor and extra creamy results. Try pairing with this matcha chocolate oatmeal!
- Lattes: a great way to use this milk is to add some to your lattes! Just like this iced strawberry latte, coffee + strawberry makes for a surprisingly delicious match.
❗️ Storage tips
Transfer the oat strawberry milk into a glass jar and keep it in the fridge for up to 3 days for the best fresh flavor.
If you end up having more milk than you can drink within that time frame, then you can pour the extra into an ice cube mold and freeze it, then add the strawberry oat milk cubes into your smoothies!

❓ FAQs
Although I haven't tried it myself, I do not see why it would not work! You might want to slightly thaw them before blending.
Yes, especially when you make it yourself! This homemade strawberry oat milk is packed with antioxidants from the strawberries, low in added sugar and free of preservatives or complicated unknown ingredients (such as colorant). Blending oats into drinks also adds extra fiber!
