Next time you need a caffeine boost, treat yourself to this amazing homemade brown sugar oat milk latte! It is easy to make at home with simple ingredients and minimal equipment, and I'll share tips if you don't have an espresso machine or a frother. It is extra creamy, naturally vegan & dairy-free and seriously delicious!

It's the beginning of winter, which mean that I crave all sorts of oat milk lattes. I particularly enjoy matcha lattes, like this strawberry matcha latte and this simple chai matcha latte.
But sometimes all you need is a coffee-flavored latte! This cardamom latte and this protein-rich peanut butter latte are favorites and I make them often, but now this brown sugar lat milk latte has completely stolen the show!
It is perfectly sweetened with caramel-like brown sugar, has a little hint of cinnamon flavor to round up the sweet flavor and is ultra creamy and smooth, thanks to the oat milk.
This is a fully vegan and dairy-free recipe, and all you need are a handful of simple ingredients (and it can be made without fancy equipment), so it is easy to make right at home.
Enjoy! ❤️

❤️ Why you will love this recipe
- Quick & Easy: make it at home within 5-10 minutes!
- Easy to customize: add spices, swap the milk and tweak the sweetness level
- Vegan: use oat milk for an ultra-creamy and dairy-free drink!
- Cheaper (and better) than in the coffee store
🗒 Ingredient notes (+ substitutions)

- Espresso: use 2 shots of espresso coffee or about ½ cup of strongly brewed coffee. Use decaf if needed!
- Oat milk: I love the full-fat oat milk from Oatly, but you can use any brand or even swap for almond milk or soy milk. I think full-fat works better for a creamier result and choose unsweetened if possible.
- Brown sugar: dark or light brown sugar both work.

📝 Variations
- Spices: a hint of cinnamon works well with the brown sugar, but nutmeg, cardamom (check out this cardamom latte!) or chai mix are great too.
- Iced brown sugar latte: feel free to serve your latte cold! To do so, simply skip warming up the milk and pour espresso + flavored milk over a tall glass filled with ice cubes.
- Higher-in-protein: for a filling mid-afternoon snack, then add a spoonful of peanut butter to the milk before mixing. Check out my popular peanut butter latte for inspiration!

💡 Helpful tips
- Type of coffee: Freshly prepared espresso coffee is best for making a latte, but if you don't have an espresso machine, then don't let this stop you! You can also use ½ cup of strongly brewed coffee using a regular coffee machine and the result will still be amazing.
- Frothing the milk: Warming up the milk before frothing helps make your drink super creamy and thicker. I like using my small handheld frother (you can find one for under 10$ online), but if you don't have one, then you could blend the warm milk with brown sugar, vanilla and cinnamon until thicker, creamy and frothy. This works especially well if you have a high-speed blender. Check out my vanilla matcha latte to see how I do that.
- Adjust flavors: you can easily use more or less brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. Make sure to taste as you go!

❓ FAQs
As described above, you can blend the milk with the flavoring ingredients on high speed until frothy. Another way would be to use a French press and vigorously go up and down with the mesh until frothy. Shaking the warm milk in a mason jar also would work if you don't have a frother!
Yes, although the flavor will be different. Brown sugar has a deep caramel-like taste, which makes this latte so unique and decadent. But if white sugar is all you have, go for it!
